Hong Kong – Half Way to Helsinki

It’s been a long time coming but we’re finally on our way.

We indulged ourselves with a “night before” stay at the Rydges at Sydney Airport. It’s lovely to toast the start of the trip with some bubbly in the bar and on our last two stays we’ve been upgraded to a room overlooking the airport, a nice view to wake up to!

Hooray we’re on our way

Thanks to our diligent collection of frequent flyer points, today’s flight was on Cathay Pacific in Business class, a real treat!

A glass of bubbly before takeoff and lots of lovely legroom

First cocktail of the day – a Pacific Sunrise. Champagne and Drambuie with orange and lemon

A delicious meal!

After a couple of movies and another meal we were descending into Hong Kong, with some great views of the shipping and wind turbines in the bay.

We have a pretty long layover in Hong Kong, around 6 hours. We’d tossed up about leaving the airport but decided that it just wasn’t quite long enough to make the effort of storing our carry on luggage and going through immigration etc. So we decided to spend the time visiting a selection of the Oneworld lounges to sample their signature cocktails ( in my case) and a selection of locals beers ( for Neil)

An Asian Mojito in Cathay Pacific’s “The Wing” lounge, watching the sun go’ down.

In the Qantas Lounge we had a delicious meal of BBQ pork washed down in my case) with a Chi Chi – Dark rum, pineapple juice and kaffir lime leaves.

After a looooong walk we finally reached Cathay pacific’s “The Pier” lounge and settled in for the rest of the wait. I couldn’t decide if I wanted another drink or a coffee, so I compromised with an Espresso Martini. I think I’m now all cocktailed out!

Settling in at “The Pier”

Finishing up with a yummy Espresso Martini.

We’ve got just over two more hours here before our Finnair flight to Helsinki departs and about 16 hours hours until we reach Turku and see Simon and Jatta at long last. I can’t wait!
