Back to Budapest

Im glad we saw the mountains and the lake yesterday because this morning we woke to thick fog! It persisted throughout breakfast and we didnt shake it until we were well down the mountain on the road south. The route took us through very pretty, green rolling countryside tor several hours before we finally arrived back in Hungary.

Pretty Slovakian countryside

The plan was to drop the car back at the Hertz office when we got back to Budapest but we made a short detour south of the city to see Memento Park. After the fall of Communism, many of the statues that embodied the regime in Checkoslovakia were packed up and delivered to this small park. It makes a feally interesting display and is a popular tourise attraction where the little shop makes a reasonable income selling Lenin bobble heads and “simple red” mugs 😂 We had a bit of fun with the statues,

Up the worker!

Then it was back into town to the Marriott hotell right on the river. After a cuppa and a rest in the room we took a stroll along the esplanade and enjoyed a drink in the hotel bar. We’d planned to eat in the hotel restaurant but they were having a Thai feast night and Thai just didnt seem right for our furst night back in Hungary! So we wandered down the esplanade again and stopped at the Dunacorso restaurant and sat sith a great view of the castle across the river.

It was a great choice as shortly after our meal arrived, a small jazz band started to play and they were great! So good that they drew a crowd along the esplanade and even inspired a couple to start dancing in the middle of the footpath. What a lovely way to spend the evening!

I don’t think I’d ever get tired of this view
