Nuremberg Remembered

When we booked the cruise we knew that Nuremberg was the only place that we would visit this time which we had already seen on our previous German trip. So, when we woke up late this morning , with me feeling a little groggy from my cold tablets, it was an easy decision to skip the morning’s organised tours and just make a short visit to the town during the afternoon.

We sat up in the lounge for breakfast and waved the others off in their buses to their various tours. Jo, Steve, Therese and Bob had opted for the Nuremberg Documentation Centre tour and Gae and Greg chose the Old Town walking tour.

We settled down in the pool lounge , which we had to ourselves all morning. Neil caught up on some work and I read the cruise guidebook and did a little blogging. I may have had a little nana nap as well, Sudafed will do that to you!

Lunch today was a Bavarian Feast of a variety of pretzels, sausages, roasted pork and at least two kinds of cabbage along with the usual salads etc. Our friendly chef, Nemo, carved the roasts wearing a jaunty Bavarian hat. We didnt linger over lunch though as we needed to catch the 2 pm shuttle bus to take us into town. Jo, Therese and Bob came along too and we had a quick tour of the main Square and  the Church of Our Lady before Bob and Therese went off to do their own thing.

Jo, Neil and I then climbed up to the castle , a very solid structure with a fine view out over the town.

The market stalls were calling to us though, so back we went to the main square, I bought the local Nuremberg Lebkuchen ( ginger bread) and Jo bought a punnet of the biggest, sweetest strawberries that Ive ever tasted.

Then we went looking down the bridge where you can see the Old Town Hall jutting out across the river. Id taken a photo of Liam there 6 years sgo and I wanted to duplicate the photo. You can see by the foliage and the tree and how cold Liam looks that our visit in 2011 was a month earlier

As the bus arrived back at the boat we noticed Gae, Greg and Steve at the little cafe near the boat, they had taken the boat’s bikes out for a nice long ride along the river and were treating themselves to a beer after their efforts. It seemed like a good idea to join them 🍺😊

Cheers! (Again! )

This evening after dinner was another fun game night, along the lines of Dictionary. We did our best but didn’t win this time, lots of fun and some great new words to add to our vocabulary… have you ever heard of bublifuk? 😊
