In Bruges

it was a long flight with a sore rear end!  I’ve been plagued with a bilateral  hamstring problem for several months which makes sitting down for too long pretty uncomfortable. I’d been dreading the 23 hour trip to Amsterdam but a combination of travel cushions, Valium and a T.E.N.S machine got me here in one piece 😊

We had a slightly irritating surprise when we collected our luggage, one of our bags has been ripped apart at the corner so we’ll need to do some suitcase shopping at some stage in the next few weeks. Luckily collecting our rental car went smoothly and by 9am we were pulling into the carpark of the Keukenhof Gardens. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more glorious display of flowers anywhere  before so I’ll let the photos tell the story.

We finished our visit with some tasty toasted salami panini sandwiches from one of the many food trucks before hitting the road for the two and a half hour drive to Bruges in Belgium. We skirted The Hague and Rotterdam on the way and the earlier part of the drive was through busy port areas and past many wind farms.

However as we approached Bruges the road meandered through pretty villages and along a lovely canal lined with tall trees.

The Hotel  Navarra is very central and our room was ready when we arrived. After a quick cup of coffee to revive us we grabbed the cameras and set out for a walk through the town. The Flemish architecture is lovely and the canals give the town the nickname “Venice of the North” .

Its very touristy, every second shop sells either Belgian chocolate, lace or beer!

Tonight I’m looking forward to a bath and a good sleep in a bed! Tomorrow its on to France.
